{"id":195241,"date":"2023-02-08T11:39:34","date_gmt":"2023-02-08T16:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=195241"},"modified":"2023-02-08T11:39:34","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T16:39:34","slug":"uconn-healths-dr-gualberto-ruano-appointed-chair-of-cases-broadening-participation-equity-and-inclusion-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2023\/02\/uconn-healths-dr-gualberto-ruano-appointed-chair-of-cases-broadening-participation-equity-and-inclusion-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Health\u2019s Dr. Gualberto Rua\u00f1o Appointed Chair of CASE\u2019s Broadening Participation, Equity, and Inclusion Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE) has appointed UConn Health\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/facultydirectory.uchc.edu\/profile?profileId=Ruano-Gualberto\">Dr. Gualberto Rua\u00f1o<\/a> as chair of its Broadening Participation, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Rua\u00f1o is assistant professor of psychiatry and assistant director for special projects at the Connecticut Convergence Institute for Translation in Regenerative Engineering at UConn Health.<\/p>\n<p>In appointing Rua\u00f1o, President John Kadow shared the Academy\u2019s Governing Council\u2019s support for his leadership and the work of this committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize that a diverse, equitable and inclusive approach within our organization will strengthen the guidance we provide to the people and the state of Connecticut on issues related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. We are fortunate to have Dr. Rua\u00f1o lead this effort,\u201d shared Kadow.<\/p>\n<p>Rua\u00f1o, an Academy member, has been an innovator in biotechnology for 30 years and is a pioneering expert in the science and clinical deployment of personalized medicine.<\/p>\n<p>He was elected to CASE in 2004 and then served as chair of the Health Technology Board.
