A recurring theme at the conference, held Nov. 10 at the Rome Commons Ballroom, was the increasing pace of technology and the need to keep up with it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The complexity\u00a0of\u00a0the next generation systems is\u00a0increasing\u00a0at\u00a0a\u00a0faster\u00a0rate\u00a0than we\u00a0can\u00a0really\u00a0understand\u00a0them,&#8221; said Sandor Becz, Director of Engineering, Component and System Design at United Technologies Aerospace Systems. &#8220;It really was clear that a new learning model was needed. Traditional systems engineering training wasn\u2019t meeting the challenges that corporations face today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mun Choi, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, said the Institute will help pave the way into the future.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/UTC-IASE-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/UTC-IASE-1-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"Michael McQuade\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/202;\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael McQuade, Senior Vice President for Science &amp; Technology at United Technologies Corporation (Chris LaRosa\/UConn)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;We will be able delve into ever more complex problems that confront engineering,&#8221; he said.\u00a0&#8220;In the process, our students will have new methods of training to the next generation of systems engineering problems.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Michael McQuade, Senior Vice President for Science &amp; Technology at United Technologies Corporation, said the Institute will lead not only to new and more efficient methods, but allow\u00a0for things that have never been done &#8211;\u00a0&#8220;to\u00a0do things better, do better things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s helping develop the new science, the new technology, the new engineering and most importantly the new human capability to allow us to pursue the new kind of systems engineering across the portfolio at UTC and more broadly across the state of Connecticut and the nation,&#8221; he said.\u00a0&#8220;Partnering with UConn presents with tremendous opportunities to build that future pool of talent.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers included Nils Sandell, Office Director of Strategic Technology Office for DARPA, and Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli at UC-Berkeley.
