{"id":198226,"date":"2023-05-03T14:00:51","date_gmt":"2023-05-03T18:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=198226"},"modified":"2023-05-02T16:04:16","modified_gmt":"2023-05-02T20:04:16","slug":"neag-school-class-of-2023-student-profile-natalie-hernandez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2023\/05\/neag-school-class-of-2023-student-profile-natalie-hernandez\/","title":{"rendered":"Neag School Class of 2023 Student Profile: Natalie Hernandez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><strong>Editor\u2019s Note: As Commencement approaches, we are featuring some of our Neag School Class of 2023 graduating students over the coming days.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong><br \/>\nMajor: <\/strong>BS, Special Education<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Hometown: <\/strong>Central Islip, New York<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Why did you choose UConn?<br \/>\n<\/strong>I chose UConn because of its nationally recognized teacher preparation program and its beautiful campus. I knew that coming here would best prepare me to become an educator with its many supports and resources offered to students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>What\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>your<\/strong> <strong>major\/field<\/strong> <strong>of<\/strong> <strong>study,<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>what<\/strong> <strong>drew<\/strong> <strong>you<\/strong> <strong>to<\/strong> <strong>it?<br \/>\n<\/strong>I am a special education major with an English concentration. I have a strong passion for education and what that means for people with disabilities. My mission is to create an inclusive and secure environment for students whenever I am in the classroom and, at the conclusion of my studies, I know I will be able to do this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Did you have<\/strong> <strong>a favorite<\/strong> <strong>professor or<\/strong> <strong>class?<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>It is hard to choose a favorite class, I have loved them all! I definitely enjoyed \u201cClassroom and Behavior Management\u201d with Susannah Everett.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>What\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>one<\/strong> <strong>thing<\/strong> <strong>that<\/strong> <strong>surprised<\/strong> <strong>you<\/strong> <strong>about<\/strong> <strong>UConn?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Something that surprised me about UConn is how much is truly available for students, from study spaces that can be reserved to clubs of anyone&#8217;s interest, there truly is something for everyone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>What<\/strong> <strong>are<\/strong> <strong>your<\/strong> <strong>plans<\/strong> <strong>after<\/strong> <strong>graduation\/receiving<\/strong> <strong>your<\/strong> <strong>degree?<br \/>\n<\/strong>I plan to continue my studies at UConn to receive a master\u2019s in educational psychology and become a special education teacher.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n  <p>\u201cUConn has prepared me for the next chapter of my life with its many resources such as career readiness, resume building, among other workshops that have been highly informative and beneficial.\u201d <cite> &#8212 Natalie Hernandez<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>How<\/strong> <strong>has<\/strong> <strong>UConn<\/strong> <strong>prepared<\/strong> <strong>you<\/strong> <strong>for<\/strong> <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>next<\/strong> <strong>chapter<\/strong> <strong>in<\/strong><strong> life?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">UConn has prepared me for the next chapter of my life with its many resources such as career readiness, resume building, among other workshops that have been highly informative and beneficial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Any advice<\/strong> <strong>for incoming<\/strong> <strong>students?<br \/>\n<\/strong>UConn will offer you the support to put yourself out there and be successful \u2014 use these resources!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>What\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>one<\/strong> <strong>thing<\/strong> <strong>everyone<\/strong> <strong>should<\/strong> <strong>do<\/strong> <strong>during<\/strong> <strong>their<\/strong> <strong>time<\/strong> <strong>at<\/strong> <strong>UConn?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Definitely go to sports events, they are all super fun! Basketball and football games at UConn are the best!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>What<\/strong> <strong>will<\/strong> <strong>always<\/strong> <strong>make<\/strong> <strong>you<\/strong> <strong>think<\/strong><strong> of UConn?<br \/>\n<\/strong>Good sportsmanship. As a campus, the Husky pride and school spirit is always felt. Similar to the sports teams our school is known for, the community at UConn plays and executes as a team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cI chose UConn because of its nationally recognized teacher preparation program and its beautiful campus.
