Here are a few items that got our attention:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">&#8211; Freeman Cos., the civil engineering firm founded by Alumnus Rohan Freeman, is featured in the Hartford Courant. The article\u00a0highlights innovations in Connecticut. Sirois has developed a novel heart valve replacement, which could be ready for\u00a0animal testing later this year. He used academic ties, his background as a submariner and medical industry experience to create a heart valve, inserted using a catheter, that&#8217;s 40 percent smaller than valves now in use.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">Sirois founded Dura Biotech in 2012 at the UConn Technology Incubator Program after working for several years in the lab of Wei Sun, a UConn professor. Sirois also had a class with Hadi Bozorgmanesh, an engineering professor who helps students spin off startup firms. Previously, Sirois had been a machinist&#8217;s mate, supervising the engine room of the USS Virginia submarine, based in Groton.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Go here for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courant.com\/courant-250\/moments-in-history\/hc-250-p7-rebuilding-with-technology-20141228-story.html#page=1\">full article<\/a>, by Dan Haar<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>##<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #666666; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">And the Middletown Press features engineering students\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #333333; font-family: 'Georgia',serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\">Rosse Gates and Caleb Gates, along with their two brothers, for an article about their family&#8217;s Eagle Scout legacy.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #333333; font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">The newest to join the rank of Eagle Scout, Eli Gates, is a senior at East Hampton High School.
