The organization is made up of Fellows\u00a0recognized for\u00a0outstanding contributions to the profession of medical and biological engineering. Election to the Academy is initiated by nominations which are screened by the membership committee of the Academy.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Chon&#8217;s current research interests include medical instrumentation, biomedical signal processing, wearable sensors and devices. These devices\u00a0include use of smart phones for vital sign collection and monitoring cardiac arrhythmias, development of hydrophobic vital sign sensors and identification and modeling of physiological systems. He has published 105 peer-reviewed journal articles to date and has 5 U.S. patents granted. His patent on an algorithm for real-time detection of atrial fibrillation has been licensed to a Holter monitor company.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20083\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20083\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/kuhn_liisa11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20083 size-full img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/kuhn_liisa11.jpg\" alt=\"kuhn_liisa[1]\" width=\"160\" height=\"208\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 160px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 160\/208;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20083\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Liisa Kuhn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u00a0<strong>Dr. Liisa T. Kuhn <\/strong>of the Biomedical Engineering Department, was awarded the Award of Merit from the American Society For Testing and Materials (ASTM) International at the May Committee Week in Toronto, Canada.\u00a0 The award was established in 1949 by the ASTM International Board of Directors and is the highest society award granted to an individual member for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Recipients also receive the honorary title of Fellow.
