{"id":201500,"date":"2017-09-29T11:58:21","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T15:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=201500"},"modified":"2023-07-19T13:12:26","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T17:12:26","slug":"neag-school-welcomes-new-faculty-member-in-educational-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2017\/09\/neag-school-welcomes-new-faculty-member-in-educational-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Neag School Welcomes New Faculty Member in Educational Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Neag School of Education this week welcomes\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/education.uconn.edu\/person\/stephen-slota\/\">Stephen Slota<\/a>\u00a0as an assistant professor-in-residence of educational technology, with a joint appointment in the School of Fine Arts Department of Digital Media and Design.<\/p>\n<p>Slota \u201907 (CLAS), \u201908 MA, \u201914 Ph.D. most recently served as an instructional design specialist and game design scientist at UConn Health\u2019s Faculty Instructional Technology Services. He has worked on a variety of game and instructional design projects with such organizations as Arizona State University\u2019s Center for Games and Impact, Intel Corporation, Pfizer, and InSync Training, LLC. A certified biology teacher, he also has experience teaching in Manchester and Coventry (Conn.) high schools.<\/p>\n<p>Slota\u2019s research interests include instructional game design, technology, and education, and he is the co-owner of the Pericles Group, a game development company. He is the co-author of\u00a0<em>Exploding the Castle: Rethinking How Video Games and Game Mechanics Can Shape the Future of Education<\/em>\u00a0(Information Age, 2017), released this fall.
