The Neag School\u2019s Class of 2017 graduates and their guests joined faculty, staff, and administrators this past weekend in celebration of\u00a0Commencement Weekend<\/a>, held on the UConn Storrs campus.<\/p>\n

The Neag School\u2019s Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, held Sunday, May 7, featured\u00a0surprise visits from\u00a0Jonathans XIII and XIV, who accompanied the nearly 150 graduates in their processional<\/a>\u00a0to the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts.<\/p>\n

Five Neag School music education majors and Class of 2017 graduates \u2014\u00a0Noah Fields, Victoria Ioppolo, Alyssa Venora, and Jamie Wisset \u2014\u00a0sang the national anthem.<\/p>\n

Best-selling children\u2019s author\u00a0Lynda Mullaly Hunt<\/a>\u00a0\u201988 (ED), \u201997 MA, a two-time alumna of the Neag School, delivered the Undergraduate Commencement address. She outlined for graduates from the Neag School\u2019s sport management and teacher education undergraduate programs eight ways in which UConn basketball mirrors life.<\/p>\n

\u201cBe brave. You have nothing to gain by playing small,\u201d she said during her remarks. \u201cQuiet confidence \u2014\u00a0not arrogance \u2014 is something people will remember about you for a long time.\u201d She received a warm standing ovation from the audience at Jorgensen.<\/p>\n

During the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, the School also showcased two videos \u2014 one\u00a0featuring alumni, students, and faculty<\/a>\u00a0sharing their Neag School experiences, and a\u00a0second video in which graduating seniors offered personal messages of gratitude<\/a>\u00a0to their families, faculty mentors, and friends.<\/p>\n

Graduates and their guests celebrated afterward during a reception held at the Student Union, where they enjoyed a\u00a0photo booth<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and photo opportunities with UConn mascot Jonathan the Husky and Dean Gladis Kersaint.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, May 6, Neag School master\u2019s and sixth-year graduates attended a pre-ceremony reception at the Student Union (see photos<\/a>), followed by the Graduate School Commencement ceremony at Gampel Pavilion, where UConn alum and political analyst Stuart Rothenberg \u201972 MA, \u201977 Ph.D., delivered the Commencement address.<\/p>\n

Graduates from the Neag School doctoral program will celebrate on Monday evening at a pre-ceremony reception held at the Alumni House, followed by the\u00a0Commencement\u00a0ceremony at Jorgensen.<\/p>\n

In total, more than 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students were awarded UConn degrees this year.<\/p>\n
