{"id":202176,"date":"2023-08-07T07:30:08","date_gmt":"2023-08-07T11:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=202176"},"modified":"2023-08-08T15:31:15","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T19:31:15","slug":"summer-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2023\/08\/summer-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There are certainly worse ways to spend a summer vacation than working with startup companies developing early-detection cancer screens, bacteria-killing clothing, and drones that can fly in the pouring rain \u2013 or studying foundational science in a neurobiology, immunology, or bioinformatics academic lab. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/innovation.uconn.edu\/technology-incubation-program\/summer-fellowship\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">TIP Innovation Fellowship<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ugradresearch.uconn.edu\/hrp\/\">Health Research Program<\/a>,<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> both 10-week immersions in the world of research and entrepreneurship, have been connecting UConn students to these experiences for 11 and seven years, respectively. The combined cohort of students from both programs presents their research at the annual Summer Research Day showcase. The morning speakers included students who had worked with the companies <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.getbastion.com\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Bastion Health<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/enablelifesciences.com\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Enable Life Sciences<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qcd-x.com\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">QCDx<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> \u2013 all health startups housed at the UConn Farmington <a href=\"https:\/\/innovation.uconn.edu\/technology-incubation-program\/\">Technology Incubation Program<\/a>, or \u201cTIP.\u201d <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The companies all boast a signature technology with the aim of disrupting existing care for complex conditions.
