{"id":202461,"date":"2016-06-15T12:52:51","date_gmt":"2016-06-15T16:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=202461"},"modified":"2023-08-08T12:56:18","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T16:56:18","slug":"uconn-administrator-prep-program-hosts-annual-change-project-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/06\/uconn-administrator-prep-program-hosts-annual-change-project-day\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Administrator Prep Program Hosts Annual Change Project Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Neag School students completing the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ucapp.education.uconn.edu\/\">UConn Administrator Preparation Program (UCAPP)<\/a>\u00a0this spring presented their change projects \u2014 the program\u2019s signature capstone assignment, in which students identify a need or opportunity for school improvement and work toward positive change \u2014 during the 2nd Annual Change Project Day. Thirty-nine students from the program\u2019s three preparation models \u2013 Traditional, Preparing Leaders for Urban Schools (PLUS), and Residency \u2013 shared their projects and fielded questions from alumni and fellow cohort members during their presentations, held on the Storrs campus in April.<\/p>\n<p>In its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/education.uconn.edu\/2015\/05\/27\/uconns-administrator-preparation-program-cohorts-present-change-projects\/\">second year<\/a>, the program\u2019s Change Project Day provides the opportunity \u201cto celebrate our students\u2019 UCAPP leadership journey,\u201d says Richard Gonzales, assistant-in-residence and director of Educational Leadership Preparation Programs in the Neag School. \u201cWe also aim to build a community of practice culture among our current and former students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Check out out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?set=a.10153557064211765.1073741975.54435971764&amp;type=1&amp;l=16ea062b56\">Facebook photos<\/a>\u00a0from the 2016 UCAPP Change Project Day.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>New to this year\u2019s event were presentations by the Traditional model students, along with participation by UCAPP alumni, including 18 graduates who facilitated the presentation sessions. Students also had the opportunity to invite their mentor principals and several guests.<\/p>\n<p>The change projects serve as a \u201ccapstone assignment that provides an authentic opportunity for our students to apply what they have learned, and to lead improvement around an area of need in their internship or home school,\u201d according to Gonzales.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13591\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13591\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13591 size-medium img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/education.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1621\/2016\/06\/UCAPP-2-DSC_1821-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"UCAPP student, Margaret Hughes, presents her change project with students and guests. (Photo credit: Shawn Kornegay)\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/267;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13591\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UCAPP student, Margaret Hughes, presents her change project with students and guests.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students\u2019 projects were diverse \u2013 from building a social studies toolbox to supporting teachers with curriculum fatigue.<\/p>\n<p>More than 50 guests attended to support the presenters, including superintendents, mentor principals, and UCAPP instructors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to thank [our partners] for their partnership and support in preparing highly and capable school leaders who are committed to realizing equity and excellence for all students and school communities,\u201d says Gonzales. \u201cWe also wish to express our most sincere appreciation for the school and district leaders, who generously shared their time and expertise as mentors to our UCAPP leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Connecticut Association of Schools, Hartford Public Schools, and LEAD Connecticut are partners with the UCAPP program.
