{"id":202475,"date":"2016-05-26T13:13:56","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T17:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=202475"},"modified":"2023-08-08T13:19:53","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T17:19:53","slug":"neag-school-celebrates-2016-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/05\/neag-school-celebrates-2016-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"Neag School Celebrates 2016 Commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Neag School\u2019s Class of 2016 graduates and their guests joined faculty, staff, and administrators earlier this month in celebration of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/education.uconn.edu\/neag2016\/\">Commencement Weekend<\/a>, held on the UConn Storrs campus.<\/p>\n<p>The Neag School\u2019s Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, held Sunday, May 8, featured surprise visits from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=S0q2PMEeicw&amp;feature=youtu.be\">Jonathans XIII and XIV<\/a>, who accompanied the more than 125 graduates in their processional to Jorgensen Auditorium. Jonathan the Husky, the University\u2019s mascot, also joined the celebration, leading the crowd in UConn and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YvLLtjf1VdA&amp;feature=youtu.be\">Mother\u2019s Day cheers<\/a>, while UConn\u2019s all-female a cappella group\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0IpqlUV6mnI&amp;feature=youtu.be\">Rubyfruit<\/a>\u00a0performed the national anthem.<\/p>\n<p>State Commissioner of Education\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sde.ct.gov\/sde\/lib\/sde\/pdf\/board\/wentzellbio.pdf\">Dianna R. Wentzell<\/a>, also a member of UConn\u2019s Board of Trustees, delivered the Undergraduate Commencement address. She shared with graduates from the Neag School\u2019s sport management and teacher education undergraduate programs insights into her early-career experiences as an educator and encouraged students to make an impact in their chosen fields. \u201cFeedback is a gift,\u201d she said. \u201cFeedback gives us an opportunity to reflect on our work and to think about ways to grow and improve. Graduates and their families celebrated afterward during a reception held at the Gentry Building, where they enjoyed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/media\/set\/?vanity=uconnneag&amp;set=a.10153593390456765\">photo booth<\/a>\u00a0and photo opportunities with Jonathan the Husky and Dean Schwab.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, May 7, Neag School master\u2019s and sixth-year graduates attended a pre-ceremony reception at the Gentry Building, followed by the Graduate School Commencement ceremony at Gampel Pavilion, where Oscar-winning film director\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2016\/05\/oliver-stone\/\">Oliver Stone<\/a>\u00a0delivered the Commencement address.
