{"id":203511,"date":"2011-03-03T14:21:38","date_gmt":"2011-03-03T14:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/?p=3574"},"modified":"2025-01-31T11:42:18","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T16:42:18","slug":"new-masters-degree-offers-innovationmanagement-focus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2011\/03\/new-masters-degree-offers-innovationmanagement-focus\/","title":{"rendered":"New Master&#8217;s Degree Offers Innovation\/Management Focus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Engineering, in partnership with the School of Business, has launched the Master of Engineering degree with a concentration in Innovation and Management (<strong>MENG \u2013 IM<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>The program targets practicing engineers who wish to enhance their managerial skills, gain an in-depth understanding of emerging technologies, and develop a more innovative approach to problem solving.\u00a0 The MENG-IM degree coursework will kick off with the fall 2011 term and be offered during evening hours at the state-of-the-art Graduate Business Learning Center, home to UConn\u2019s executive and part-time MBA programs. Courses will be taught by faculty from the School of Engineering and School of Business.<\/p>\n<p>The degree program capitalizes on the popular on-site Master of Engineering program established in 1999, which has enabled thousands of working engineers to take advanced coursework toward a master\u2019s degree while expanding their skills in a range of technical areas.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/media\/2011\/03\/meng1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3607 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"meng1\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/media\/2011\/03\/meng1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"237\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/237;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students who complete the MENG-IM degree will find themselves well prepared to pursue a Ph.D. in an engineering discipline or an MBA degree, if they desire.<\/p>\n<p>To earn the MENG\u2013IM degree, students will successfully complete eight 3-credit graduate engineering and business courses along with a culminating 3-credit team project.\u00a0 The engineering course offerings will include High-Performance Computing; Sustainable Energy Sources and Systems; Principles of Numerical Modeling and Optimum Design; and Introduction to Nanotechnologies.<\/p>\n<p>Among the business course offerings to be offered are: Cost Analysis and Control; Financial Accounting and Reporting; Introduction to Project Management; Management Controls; Managing Organizations; Operations Management; Opportunity Generation, Assessment, and Promotion; Strategy, Policy, and Planning;
