McCarthy<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/warm-mix-small.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8004 alignleft img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/warm-mix-small.jpg\" alt=\"Warm Mix Asphalt Paving\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/201;\" \/><\/a>The Connecticut Transportation Institute (CTI),\u00a0working with\u00a0the CT Department of Transportation, is collecting data in support of our\u00a0 state\u2019s efforts to make road maintenance operations more environmentally\u00a0 friendly and to support the Federal Highway Administration\u2019s (FHWA) Every Day\u00a0 Counts (EDC) Initiative.\u00a0 Staff from CTI\u2019s Connecticut Advanced Pavement Laboratory led the data collection process\u00a0for two Warm Mix Asphalt pilot projects during the 2010 construction season and is now working with data\u00a0from\u00a0four additional projects that were constructed this\u00a0summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Use of Warm Mix Apshalt on CT Roadway<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warm Mix Asphalt technology is new to Connecticut and is seen worldwide as an environmentally friendly alternative to Hot Mix Asphalt.\u00a0The use of Warm Mix Asphalt lowers fuel\/energy use as well as greenhouse gas\u00a0emissions by significantly lowering the temperature at which pavement may be placed. This reduction in temperature also improves working conditions by\u00a0reducing emissions from the asphalt mixture at the time of placement.
