{"id":203572,"date":"2012-03-27T16:07:26","date_gmt":"2012-03-27T16:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/?p=11122"},"modified":"2025-01-30T23:45:41","modified_gmt":"2025-01-31T04:45:41","slug":"uconn-gk-12-team-receives-media-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2012\/03\/uconn-gk-12-team-receives-media-award\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn GK-12 Team Receives Media Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/\">National Science Foundation<\/a> recognized UConn\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engr.uconn.edu\/gk12\/\">GK-12 program<\/a> as the co-recipient of the Outstanding Media Award during a March GK-12 annual meeting in Washington, DC.\u00a0 The award honors the School of Engineering\u2019s Graduate\/K-12 (GK-12) team for its dedicated and effective efforts to publicize the results of its outreach efforts with Connecticut\u2019s Technical High School participants. Sharing the award with UConn was the team from the University of Wyoming.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11072 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"gk award2\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/gk-award2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"229\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/229;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Approximately 500 graduate students, administrators and investigators attended the meeting, which included presentations, posters, networking events and discussions among the currently funded teams. Aida Ghiaei, program director, along with GK-12 Fellows Juan Pablo Correa Baena, Molly Koehle, Matthew Eschbach and Andrea Kadilak, participated in the meeting<\/p>\n<p>Since receiving the $<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engr.uconn.edu\/soelandsinitiativeaward.php\">2.7 million award<\/a> in March 2010, the team has worked hard to develop an array of multi-media communications that convey the objectives of the outreach program, specific lessons and demonstrations, outcomes and community members. UConn\u2019s program enables selected engineering graduate students to assist Connecticut Tech School teachers in presenting demonstrations that bridge scientific and mathematical principles with engineering applications.
