Michael McQuade<\/strong>, Senior VP for Science &amp; Technology at United Technologies Corp., who has been instrumental in strengthening the symbiotic research partnership between UTC and the School of Engineering, in fostering engineering awareness by the general public, and in helping UConn attain a more sustainable energy footprint. In his role at UTC, Dr. McQuade is responsible for providing strategic oversight and guidance for research, engineering and development activities throughout the UTC business units and at the company\u2019s Research Center.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Distinguished Professional Achievement Awards were presented to:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-bartosewicz.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-11619 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-bartosewicz\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-bartosewicz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Anne Bartosewicz<\/strong> (B.S. \u201981), Project Director in the Transmission Business Unit of Northeast Utilities, where she is responsible for the development of large-scale transmission projects, including the Northern Pass Project, which will enable the importation of competitively priced, low-carbon hydroelectric power from Canada into New England, supplying clean power to over one million homes while reducing CO<sub>2<\/sub> emissions by six million tons.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-bennett.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-11620 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-bennett\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-bennett.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Mark S. Bennett<\/strong> (Ph.D.\u201989), Program Manager for General Dynamics Electric Boat\u2019s Independent Research &amp; Development (IR&amp;D) Program. As a chief technologist for Electric Boat, Dr. Bennett has built strong relations with Navy agencies and laboratories, universities and other industries, and is a nationally recognized leader in the naval community.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-carter.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-11621 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-carter\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-carter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>G. Clifford Carter <\/strong>(M.S., Ph.D. \u201872, \u201876), Senior Civilian and Technical Leader in the Sensors and Sonar Systems Department of the Naval Sea Undersea Warfare Center.\u00a0 He has made important contributions to the field of sonar and underwater acoustics, including his Smoothed Coherence Transform (SCOT) signal processing algorithm and coherence and time delay estimation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-daniels.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-11622 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-daniels\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-daniels.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Janet H. Daniels<\/strong> (B.S.\u201984), President of Daniels &amp; Associates, P.C. in Virginia. Among the early African American women to graduate from the School of Engineering, Ms. Daniels is also an entrepreneur who founded her civil engineering firm specializing in structural engineering design and analysis, construction management and inspections for a variety of commercial and municipal entities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-jacoby.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-11623 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-jacoby\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-jacoby.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Ronald Jacoby<\/strong> (B.S.\u201987), Vice President of Yahoo! Inc.\u2019s Connected TV.\u00a0 Since 1999, he has also served as chief architect of Yahoo\u2019s Connected Life and Platform Engineering, and Director of Strategic Technology.\u00a0 The Yahoo! Connected TV platform enables televisions to be connected to the Internet and won the 2011 Primetime Emmy Engineering Plaque for Outstanding Engineering Achievement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-morgan.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-11625 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-morgan\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-morgan.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Jackson E. Morgan<\/strong> (M.S. \u201870), Director of Propulsion Plant &amp; Ship Systems Design &amp; Engineering at General Dynamics Electric Boat. His organization is responsible for propulsion plant and ship systems design and development, supporting ship design and construction programs, ship upgrades and modernization. \u00a0Mr. Morgan has supported the design and construction of the Sturgeon, Narwhal, NR-1, Lipscomb, Los Angeles, Trident, Seawolf and Virginia classes of submarine.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-pryputniewicz.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-11626 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-pryputniewicz\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-pryputniewicz.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Ryszard J. Pryputniewicz<\/strong> (M.S., Ph.D.\u201974, \u201976), the K.G. Merriam Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), which he joined in 1978.\u00a0 In addition, he is the Founding Director of the Center for Holographic Studies and Laser micromechaTronics.\u00a0 In recognition of his seminal contributions in holography and photonics, he has received numerous awards and honors.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-singer.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-11627 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"academy-singer\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/academy-singer.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"115\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 115px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 115\/115;\" \/><\/a>Paul H. Singer<\/strong> (B.S. \u201888), General Manager of Engineering for GE Energy\u2019s Industrial Solutions business, where he leads the global engineering teams for GE\u2019s electrical distribution, motors, and industrial services businesses.
