Chandran is professor of earth and environmental engineering at Columbia University, where he leads the Columbia University biomolecular environmental science program and the wastewater treatment and climate change program. Under his stewardship, the research directions of biological wastewater treatment and biological nitrogen removal were established for the first time ever in the history of Columbia University. Chandran is keenly interested in developing novel models for sustainable sanitation and wastewater treatment, with a specific focus on managing the global nitrogen cycle and linking it to the carbon cycle, the food cycle, the water cycle and the energy cycle. Chandran has a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from UConn, as well as a B.S. in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology. He received a 2015 MacArthur Fellowship for his work “integrating microbial ecology, molecular biology, and engineering to transform wastewater from a troublesome pollutant to a valuable resource.”

Senior Design Day & All Alumni Reunion and Reception:
One of the highlights of our Centennial Celebration is the combination of Senior Design Day and our All Alumni Reunion and Reception on Friday, April 29.
Senior Design Day runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion. Come see what our seniors have been working on all year, solving problems brought to them by our industry partners and gaining hands-on experience in a professional environment.

The All Alumni Reunion and Reception starts at 4:30 p.m at Rome Ballroom.
