{"id":20587,"date":"2015-04-13T18:40:53","date_gmt":"2015-04-13T18:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/?p=20587"},"modified":"2015-04-13T18:40:53","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T18:40:53","slug":"uconn-professor-and-students-honored-as-women-of-innovation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2015\/04\/uconn-professor-and-students-honored-as-women-of-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Professor And Students Honored As &#8220;Women of Innovation&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With one researcher and two students taking home awards, UConn was well-represented at the\u00a0recent Women of Innovation awards gala hosted by\u00a0the Connecticut Technology Council.<\/p>\n<p>At the April 1 ceremony, held\u00a0at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville,\u00a010 women received awards in eight categories that focus on leadership and innovation in academia, industry and community. There were\u00a056 finalists, six of whom are with UConn.\u00a0The Women of Innovation program recognizes women\u00a0in the workforce and students\u00a0across Connecticut who are innovators, role models and leaders in their technology professions or fields of study.<\/p>\n<p>The three winners from UConn are:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/case-maric2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11821 alignleft img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/d45h139.public.uconn.edu\/sites\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/case-maric2.jpg\" alt=\"case maric2\" width=\"159\" height=\"207\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 159px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 159\/207;\" \/><\/a>Radenka Maric, Connecticut Clean Energy Professor in Sustainable Energy, for Research Innovation and Leadership <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Radenka Maric joined UCONN in 2010, where she focuses on developing new materials and novel structures for energy storage and conversion, structural ceramics and hydrogen production and separation. Previously, she was group leader and program manager at the National Research Council of Canada&#8217;s Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation, program manager at nGimat and senior scientist\/team ILeader at the Japan Fine Ceramics Center in Japan. Sapna&#8217;s academic achievements, innovative research and creativity are evident in the many fellowships, distinctions, and awards she has received, including her honorable mention for the 2014 Baker Student Researcher award. ManyMentors is a STEM online and in-person mentoring nonprofit organization that connects university mentors with middle and high school students interested in STEM degrees and careers.
