{"id":209653,"date":"2024-02-09T08:41:48","date_gmt":"2024-02-09T13:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=209653"},"modified":"2024-02-09T11:22:17","modified_gmt":"2024-02-09T16:22:17","slug":"online-graduate-programs-at-uconn-place-highly-in-national-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2024\/02\/online-graduate-programs-at-uconn-place-highly-in-national-rankings\/","title":{"rendered":"Online Graduate Programs at UConn Place Highly in National Rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The online master\u2019s programs offered by the School of Nursing, School of Business, and College of Engineering are among the best in the country, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/online-education\/university-of-connecticut-129020\">new rankings by U.S. News &amp; World Report.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the latest rankings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The online Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program in the School of Business is No. 9 nationally, up from No. 11 three years ago.<\/li>\n<li>The two online Master of Science in Nursing programs are No. 8 nationally, up from No. 18 last year and the highest ranked program among nursing schools in New England.<\/li>\n<li>The online Master of Engineering program is No. 37 nationally, a placement identical to last year\u2019s ranking. The rank is 25 spots higher than three years ago.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>U.S. News\u00a0ranks programs according to their performance across a set of indicators of excellence, including faculty credentials, student engagement, reputation in both academic and industry circles, graduation rates, class size, online teaching best practices, support services, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A commitment to innovative nursing education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The School of Nursing offers a significant opportunity for online programs in continuing education. This has grown from past years to include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/family-nurse-practitioner.online.uconn.edu\/\">family nurse practitioner<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acutecare-nursing.online.uconn.edu\/\">adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/primarycare-nursing.online.uconn.edu\/\">adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nurse-educator-masters.online.uconn.edu\/\">nurse educator<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/neonatal-nursing.online.uconn.edu\/\">neonatal nurse practitioner concentration<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nurse-leader-masters.online.uconn.edu\/\">nurse leader.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The graduate program was established in 1971 and has been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Its experienced faculty prepares skilled nurse leaders who synthesize the best evidence and translate it into practice to advance health locally and globally. Graduate students are offered flexible online programming, superior clinical experiences, multiple concentration options, and a superior certification pass rate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe significant rise to Number 8 in our national rankings demonstrates UConn Nursing\u2019s outstanding program and the school\u2019s commitment to innovative, high-quality nursing education. The entity was formerly known as the UConn School of Engineering\u2019s Professional Education program before its elevation to a center this past fall.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe believe it\u2019s pivotal that working engineers are provided with the opportunity to earn their MENG in a way that is flexible and convenient,\u201d says Center Program Director Nora Sutton. \u201cOur degrees are designed to help students balance their work\/life responsibilities, empowering them to be a real force in the increasingly evolving, and highly impactful, world of engineering.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>High standards for online education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This year, the School of Business\u2019 MSA program added two certificates, one in tax and the other in financial reporting, that align student coursework with the newly redesigned CPA exam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat makes the program consistently successful is that we have always set high standards for online education, even before other universities were offering online programs,\u2019\u2019 says Professor George Plesko, accounting department head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver time, the program has continued to innovate and to increase the expectations of what we can offer,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cIn addition, we have a group of highly talented faculty who are dedicated to the program, its mission, and our students.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The UConn accounting program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), considered the \u2018gold standard\u2019 of business school evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-credit MSA program was created in 1999 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It provides the additional accounting credit hours to complete the educational requirements needed to earn a CPA license.
