It also includes the idea that \u201cthat falling away has been both the fault of persons in the society and attacks by outsiders.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The proliferation of this worldview is a source of dismay for many across the political spectrum, including Braunstein herself. Though she notes the country has not always lived up to its pluralistic ideals, she believes these ideals call Americans to create \u201ca democracy where people of all religious faiths and no religious faiths are welcome to live in the way they choose \u2014 and not just welcome, but also part of the group of people who get to create that society.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:257}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The resurgence of Christian nationalism in US politics has received a lot of media airtime, especially its role in violent events like the 2017 Charlottesville \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally and the 2021 Capitol insurrection. But Braunstein urges us to look, instead, toward the quieter coalition-building taking place across the nation as people join forces to combat the spread of this ideology.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI noticed that as Christian nationalism was gaining power and influence in American politics, it was also unleashing a wave of resistance,\u201d she says. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That included the \u201cusual suspects\u201d \u2014 \u201cliberal religious groups, legal defense groups\u201d \u2014 who have been resisting Christian nationalism for decades, \u201cbut also included some new actors, including many conservative white Christians who were concerned about what Christian nationalism meant for both American democracy and American Christianity.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:276}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Her work explores the significance of this resistance for people from all walks of life.
