Nearly four hundred years ago, the Fundamental Orders of 1638\/1639 were written on Connecticut soil, marking what historians argue was the world\u2019s first formal constitution. Because of this, Connecticut earned its moniker of \u201cthe Constitution State.\u201d <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ever since, Connecticut has been a cradle of significant achievements and inventions in American history, from <\/span>the skies<\/span><\/a> to <\/span>the seas<\/span><\/a>. These developments are chronicled in \u201cInnovation in Connecticut,\u201d a new feature documentary from UConn\u2019s <\/span>Werth Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

UConn president Radenka Maric initiated the project, led by Werth Institute director David Noble, and directed by Werth associate research professor Zeljko Mirkovic.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 53-minute documentary, Mirkovic says, more than\u00a030 individuals “who are doing phenomenal jobs at the University and beyond\u201d share their stories. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Interviewees include Maric; Noble; UConn provost Anne D\u2019Alleva; vice president for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship Pamir Alpay; associate professor of history and Connecticut state historian Andy Horowitz; former US senator Chris Dodd; Governor Ned Lamont;\u00a0and many more. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The founders of Connecticut-based companies like <\/span>The Junkluggers<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Skyre<\/span><\/a> join state history professionals from the New England Air Museum, the New Haven Museum, and the Mark Twain House & Museum, and more. Prominent UConn alumni are profiled, including CEO of Biohaven Pharmaceuticals Vlad Coric; entrepreneur and philanthropist Trisha Bailey<\/a>; co-managing partner of Cantor Colburn LLP<\/a><\/span> Michael Cantor; and lawyer, philanthropist, and former UConn Board of Trustees chairman Coleman Levy.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a story told through the people, it\u2019s a story told through the archives \u2014 this is a proof story,\u201d Mirkovic says. \u201cIt proves how UConn and Connecticut are bringing new value in innovation, every day.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
