{"id":21704,"date":"2010-09-23T13:26:50","date_gmt":"2010-09-23T17:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=21704"},"modified":"2010-09-29T11:06:25","modified_gmt":"2010-09-29T15:06:25","slug":"dairy-bar-dealing-with-production-bottleneck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2010\/09\/dairy-bar-dealing-with-production-bottleneck\/","title":{"rendered":"Dairy Bar Dealing with Production Bottleneck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Due to ongoing construction in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dairybar.uconn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dairy Bar<\/a>\u2019s ice cream production facility and problems with some machinery, the beloved UConn landmark is only able to produce 60-70 percent of its usual ice cream output.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Dairy Bar and Facilities are working as fast as they can to get production back to normal.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Daniel Fletcher, head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.animalscience.uconn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Animal Science<\/a> \u2013 which is responsible for the Dairy Bar \u2013 says that the construction is related to new equipment being installed that will allow the Dairy Bar to increase its output, so that more UConn ice cream will be available at locations throughout campus. Unfortunately, the construction has meant that the Dairy Bar sometimes has to stop production for a few days at a time to allow the crews to do their work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has created something of an ice cream bottleneck,\u201d Fletcher says. \u201cWe had the option of closing the Dairy Bar while construction was going on, but that would have meant no ice cream at all during a time of peak demand. So we decided to work through it as best we could.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Compounding these problems, unrelated equipment failures have resulted in the disruption of the Dairy Bar\u2019s ability to produce ice cream cakes.
