I also want to show them that you can study women and girls and get promoted, get tenure, and thrive in academia. (Sydney Herdle\/UConn Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The program was organized with the help of funds from the Provost\u2019s Office in 2015, following an initiative to promote scholarship and research on women and girls of color from the White House Council on Women and Girls.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The weeklong program featured keynote speakers, writing workshops, group coaching <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">sessions, and lectures.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Each day of the program revolved around a different theme, with Monday\u2019s activities focused on \u201ctelling herstories.\u201d Tuesday\u2019s sessions delved into mixed methods and data collection, where participants heard from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/afam.ucla.edu\/person\/lorrie-frasure\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">University of California Los Angeles Professor of Political Science and African American Studies Lorrie Frasure<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> who explained how to launch and fund a large-N survey. They also learned about varying qualitative research methods from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/history.uconn.edu\/person\/fiona-vernal\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Fiona Vernal, UConn associate professor of history and Africana studies,<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gufaculty360.georgetown.edu\/s\/contact\/0031Q00002QQ02IQAT\/nadia-brown\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nadia Brown, Georgetown University professor of government.<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">On Wednesday, the group explored topics about self-care, career development, and digital wellness.
