In turn, Pierce spent a lot of her time at UConn as a mentor herself – working with other students to help them find their own passions within the School of Nursing.

Why did you choose UConn?
I chose UConn because when I toured the campus, I had never felt more excited to be somewhere. I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts, and I loved how big the campus felt. I knew that UConn was the place for me when I got my acceptance notice and was jumping up and down with joy.

What’s your major or field of study, and what drew you to it?
I am a nursing major, and I realized that this was my calling during high school. I had the opportunity to go to a technical high school and was able to learn about nursing, and I knew that helping others was for me.

Did you have a favorite professor or class?
All the teachers in the School of Nursing are amazing; however, my favorite class is Medsurg with Dawn Sarage. This class showed me my passion for Medsurg nursing, and it stemmed from an amazing and enthusiastic teacher.

What activities were you involved in as a student?
During my four years, I was able to be a large part of the mentoring community at UConn! My sophomore year, I started with UConn First-Year Experience to help teach and support first-year nursing students in their transition to college. I then continued my mentoring lifestyle with The Major Experience and UConn ACES, where I help underclassmen find their passion in the School of Nursing. I am also involved in many volunteer opportunities through the School of Nursing.

What are your plans after graduation/receiving your degree?
During my time at UConn, I found my passion in Medsurg nursing, although it is not everyone’s favorite specialty. I plan on moving back to Massachusetts with my goal of working at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Any advice for incoming students?
Remember to live your life! The exam is important, but you are as well.

What’s one thing everyone should do during their time at UConn?
Go sledding on Horsebarn Hill!

[1
[117
post-227556","post","type-post","status-publish","format-quote","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","post_format-post-format-quote
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
