{"id":234172,"date":"2025-08-26T07:27:44","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T11:27:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=234172"},"modified":"2025-08-26T07:27:44","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T11:27:44","slug":"julia-kuzovkina-named-interim-department-head-of-plant-science-and-landscape-architecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2025\/08\/julia-kuzovkina-named-interim-department-head-of-plant-science-and-landscape-architecture\/","title":{"rendered":"Julia Kuzovkina Named Interim Department Head of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Julia Kuzovkina, professor of horticulture, has been named the interim department head for the <a href=\"https:\/\/psla.uconn.edu\">Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Kuzovkina\u2019s dedication to all areas of UConn\u2019s mission areas of research, teaching, and extension engagement enable her to provide unique and creative leadership,\u201d says Kumar Venkitrayananan, CAHNR\u2019s interim dean. \u201cI am thrilled she has agreed to step into this role and serve the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kuzovkina is an internationally recognized researcher whose work on native plants, willows, and biodiversity has had impacts both close to home and on a global scale.<\/p>\n<p>Joining UConn in 2005, Kuzovkina has served in several leadership roles. She has several active grants that highlight the diversity and interdisciplinary nature of her work. She also currently leads the department\u2019s Early College Experience program, connecting educators and students around the state with UConn and the unique programs offered at CAHNR. She works closely with Extension and has experience with entrepreneurship through several programs administered by UConn\u2019s CCEI.\u00a0 She is also involved in the New England Native Plants Initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m honored to serve as interim department head and to support the incredible work happening across our department. Our faculty, staff, and students are deeply committed to advancing plant science and landscape architecture through research, education, and community engagement.
