In June, Atkin was honored at the ICA\u2019s annual conference as one of only 15 scholars worldwide selected to the Class of 2025.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ICA is a global academic association dedicated to advancing the scholarly study of communication. Fellow status recognizes distinguished scholarly contributions to the field.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Atkin\u2019s research focuses on the adoption, use, and regulation of new media. He is the author of four books and more than 180 scholarly articles and is consistently ranked among the top 1% most-cited researchers in the humanities and social sciences by Research.com.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He is the second UConn faculty member in the Department of Communication to receive the honor, following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2024\/08\/carolyn-lin-named-international-communication-association-fellow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Carolyn Lin\u2019s induction<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"TextRun SCXW125857892 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW125857892 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\">Laura <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW125857892 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\">Donorfio<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW125857892 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\">Named<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW125857892 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\"> Fellow of Gerontological Society of America<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hdfs.uconn.edu\/person\/laura-donorfio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Laura Donorfio<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> associate professor of human development and family sciences, has been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geron.org\/News-Events\/GSA-News\/Press-Room\/Press-Releases\/gerontological-society-of-america-selects-2025-fellows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">named a fellow<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the highest category of membership within the organization.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">GSA is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary scientific organization devoted to the advancement of gerontological research, learning, and practice. Fellow status recognizes outstanding and sustained contributions to the field of gerontology.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Donorfio will be honored at the GSA\u2019s 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"TextRun SCXW30828038 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW30828038 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\">Poetic Journeys <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW30828038 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\">Poster Series <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW30828038 BCX0\" data-ccp-parastyle=\"heading 2\">Wins Connecticut Art Directors Club Award<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/poeticjourneys.uconn.edu\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Poetic Journeys<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> poster series, a long-running collaboration between UConn\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/english.uconn.edu\/creative-writing-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Creative Writing Program<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in the Department of English and the UConn Design Center Studio, received a silver award in the student online and interactive category at the 49th Annual Connecticut Art Directors Club Awards in July.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The 2025 winning team included <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Kyle Barron \u201925 Ph.D.<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, former graduate assistant director of creative writing; Dina Benbrahim, assistant professor of art and art history in the School of Fine Arts; and undergraduate students Riley McGarry Partridge, Cole Heitman and Dillan Luna, all of whom contributed to the design and animation work.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now in its 25th year, Poetic Journeys features poems written by UConn students, faculty, and staff on placards designed by students in the School of Fine Arts.
