German Studies\u00a0Professor\u00a0Anke Finger Delivers Keynote Address<\/span><\/h2>\n

Anke Finger<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0professor of\u00a0literatures,\u00a0cultures, and\u00a0languages, delivered the keynote address at\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Expressionism and Colonialism conference<\/span><\/a> on Sept. 25\u00a0in London. The event was organized by the\u00a0<\/span>Institute of Languages, Cultures, and Societies (ILCS)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in association with\u00a0the\u00a0Centre for Comparative Literature at Goldsmiths\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0University of London.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference brought together scholars from 10 countries across three continents. Participants re-examined the work of German-language writers and intellectuals through the lens of colonial history.\u00a0\u00a0ILCS\u00a0supports research in the integrated study of languages, cultures, and societies, with\u00a0strengths\u00a0in French and Francophone, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American\/Caribbean studies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finger\u2019s keynote address, titled \u201cAugmenting the Nexus between German Expressionism and Colonialism,\u201d was supported by the University of London\u2019s Coffin Trust.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Communication Assistant Professor Elizabeth Hintz Named 2025 Early Career Scholar\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Elizabeth Hintz<\/span><\/a>, assistant professor of communication, has received the <\/span>2025 Early Career Scholar Award<\/span><\/a>\u00a0from the Health Communication\u00a0division of the\u00a0<\/span>National Communication Association (NCA)<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

This recognition celebrates Hintz\u2019s contributions to health communication research and her dedication to advancing the field. Award winners will be recognized at the 111th Annual NCA Convention in November.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The NCA is a membership-based scholarly society dedicated to advancing communication scholarship, teaching, and practice to foster a better world and transform lives through communication.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This\u00a0<\/span>is<\/span>\u00a0Hintz\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>most recent\u00a0<\/span>e<\/span>arly\u00a0<\/span>c<\/span>areer\u00a0<\/span>honor<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>In\u00a0<\/span>2023<\/span>, she received<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a<\/span>wards from\u00a0<\/span>both the\u00a0<\/span>Interpersonal Communication and Family Communication divisions<\/span>\u00a0of the NCA<\/span>. <\/span>By earning all three awards, Hin<\/span>t<\/span>z has achieved a rare distinction in her field.<\/span><\/p>\n

Charles R. Venator-Santiago Appointed to Connecticut Advisory Board<\/span><\/h2>\n

Charles R. Venator-Santiago<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0associate professor of political science\u00a0and director of\u00a0El Instituto\u00a0and\u00a0UConn\u2019s\u00a0Puerto Rican Studies Initiative, has been appointed to the\u00a0<\/span>Connecticut Commission on Women, Seniors, Children, Equity,\u00a0and Opportunity Advisory Board<\/span><\/a>. Venator-Santiago\u2019s term will run through June\u00a02027.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The commission is a nonpartisan agency within the state legislature that works to address issues affecting underrepresented populations, including women, children and their families, seniors, and African American, Asian Pacific-American, Latino,\u00a0and Puerto Rican communities. The agency informs and engages policymakers on citizen needs and aims to improve economic development, education,\u00a0health,\u00a0and overall well-being in\u00a0Connecticut.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The commission also serves both the legislature and residents by promoting best practices in public policy by working toward a more\u00a0equitable\u00a0and accessible Connecticut for future generations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to his new role, Venator-Santiago\u00a0is also\u00a0a state commissioner for the\u00a0<\/span>Connecticut Social Equity Council<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
