As\u00a0students prepare for their post-graduate\u00a0careers, they often look to mentors to guide\u00a0them\u00a0on the foundational steps of their journey.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Several UConn College of Engineering undergraduate students\u00a0were recently\u00a0given the chance to make in-person connections with talented alumni and industry leaders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2025 “Engineers Getting Connected” event brought together students, alumni, college leadership, and industry innovators on October 7.\u00a0Undergraduate students were able to ask professional alumni for their advice on entering the workforce after graduation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0undergraduate\u00a0students invited were recent scholarship award winners.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Student and alumni attendees first\u00a0enjoyed a brief question-and-answer\u00a0session\u00a0between two notable undergraduate students and two alumni.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bernard Gracy is a member of the UConn Engineering advisory board. He is the EVP and Chief\u00a0Digital Officer at Monotype.\u00a0He holds a\u00a0bachelor\u2019s\u00a0degree\u00a0in computer science\u00a0and engineering from UConn.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jeanine Armstrong Gouin is\u00a0an alumni representative on the UConn Board of Trustees. She is the president of SLR International Corp. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in civil engineering from UConn.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both Gouin and Gracy are UConn Academy of Distinguished Engineers inductees.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Gouin and Gracy were\u00a0asked questions\u00a0by\u00a0mechanical engineering student Brian Machado and\u00a0environmental engineering student\u00a0Grace\u00a0Mastalli-Lowther.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Machado has been involved with several student organizations, including Engineers Without Borders, Delta Tau Delta, Engineering House Learning Community, and the Gaelic Athletic Association.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mastalli-Lowther has been involved with\u00a0the\u00a0Society of Women Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the UConn Master Gardener Program.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Both students intend to graduate in May.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Machado and\u00a0Mastalli-Lowther\u00a0asked the alumni how their career has surprised them over the years, what opportunities they wish they took advantage of while they were still at UConn, and\u00a0any\u00a0general parting wisdom they would give to a\u00a0captive student audience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the\u00a0question-and-answer\u00a0session, students mingled\u00a0with\u00a0several other alumni in the audience. Students spent a few minutes with one\u00a0alumni, before\u00a0rotating tables and meeting another alum.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
