On September 17th, 2025, CPA gathered for its Anniversary Awards Ceremony, celebrating the\u00a0<\/span>community outreach, pharmac<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0advancements, and advanc<\/span>ed\u00a0<\/span>knowledge the association has achieved over the last 150 years.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Nathan Tinker<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Ph.D., the<\/span>\u00a0CEO of CPA, presented awards to pharmac<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0leaders\u00a0<\/span>who work tirelessly in advancing\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0profession<\/span>\u00a0and scholarships to\u00a0<\/span>pharmac<\/span>y\u00a0<\/span>students eager to transform the future of pharmacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ceremony\u2019s highest distinction,\u00a0The Bowl of Hygeia Award,\u00a0was awarded\u00a0to Marissa Salvo,\u00a0Pharm.D., BCACP, FCCP, FCPA. As Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice at UConn\u00a0Pharmacy, Salvo also served as\u00a0a\u00a0past president of CPA.\u00a0An award given for outstanding records of community service, the Bowl of Hygeia Award reflects Salvo\u2019s\u00a0long\u00a0commitment to mentorship and pharmacy education within and outside the classroom and her clinical practice and\u00a0service\u00a0in\u00a0and\u00a0advocacy\u00a0for the profession.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Graduating from the University of Rhode Island with her Pharm.D., Salvo completed a PGY1 Residency, with a focus in ambulatory care and academia, from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy<\/span>\u00a0before coming to the\u00a0<\/span>School<\/span>. Additionally, she was CPA\u2019s 145<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>\u00a0president and currently serves\u00a0<\/span>on the Board of the\u00a0<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>e<\/span>c<\/span>t<\/span>i<\/span>c<\/span>u<\/span>t<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>h<\/span>a<\/span>r<\/span>m<\/span>a<\/span>c<\/span>ists Foundation<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>As a faculty member, CPA member, and past President of CPA, I am grateful for the longstanding collaborations and support between the School and CPA.\u201d – Marissa Salvo\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

At U<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>, Salvo\u00a0<\/span>is the course coordinator and instructor in the Communications<\/span>\u00a0and Professional Identity<\/span>\u00a0course and is a preceptor for APPE students on their Ambulatory Care experience<\/span>\u00a0at her clinical site at U<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0Health<\/span>, with a focus\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0primary care. Her research interests include\u00a0<\/span>medication management in primary care<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0pharmacist and student pharmacist education and training<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Tinker, Salvo embodies the spirit of the prestigious award: \u201cHer dedication to her patients, students, and colleagues is an inspiration for the entire profession.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Associate Clinical Professor,\u00a0<\/span>Christina\u00a0<\/span>Polomoff<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>Pharm.D.)<\/span><\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0was installed as President of CPA during this ceremony, a testament to her leadership in and commitment to advancing the pharmac<\/span>y<\/span>\u00a0field.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After earning her Pharm.D. from the U<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0School of Pharmacy in 2014 and completing residencies at the\u00a0<\/span>Veteran Affairs (<\/span>VA<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>e<\/span>c<\/span>t<\/span>i<\/span>c<\/span>u<\/span>t<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Healthcare System and The John<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0Hopkins Hospital,\u00a0<\/span>Polomoff<\/span>\u00a0returned to U<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>\u00a0in 2016 as a faculty member. Also working as a population health c<\/span>linical pharmacist at Hartford HealthCare,\u00a0<\/span>Polomoff<\/span>\u00a0focuses on quality improvement and medication management for older adults.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Teaching public health and healthcare policy to students through the School\u2019s Leaders Track and\u00a0<\/span>advising<\/span>\u00a0the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy student chapter,\u00a0<\/span>Polomoff<\/span>\u00a0has<\/span>\u00a0inspired young pharmacists\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0advance innovative pharmacy practice.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Sean\u00a0<\/span>Jef<\/span>f<\/span>e<\/span>ry, <\/span>Pharm.D., was installed as President-Elect. As Clinical Professor of Pharmacy Practice <\/span>at U<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Jef<\/span>f<\/span>e<\/span>r<\/span>y received his B.S. in Pharmacy at the School b<\/span>efore going to The Ohio State University for his Pharm.D.. Teaching Geriatric Pharmacotherapy and Value-based Healthcare, <\/span>Jef<\/span>f<\/span>e<\/span>r<\/span>y\u00a0<\/span>is the Director of\u00a0<\/span>Pharmacy\u00a0<\/span>at Integrated C<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0Partners and the Co-Founder of The Coalition for Senior Medication Safety.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His career has focused on implementing innovative patient care services for seniors that promote the value of pharmacists in care coordination.\u00a0<\/span>Jef<\/span>f<\/span>e<\/span>r<\/span>y\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>responsible for<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>managing Medicare Part D Star\u00a0<\/span>pharmacy\u00a0<\/span>quality measures<\/span>, population health management,\u00a0<\/span>and supporting an integrated care-management team and employed medical group<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Also serving as Professor of\u00a0<\/span>Pharmacy at the School,\u00a0<\/span>Jef<\/span>f<\/span>e<\/span>r<\/span>y\u00a0<\/span>is preparing U<\/span>Con<\/span>n<\/span> students for jobs as<\/span>\u00a0primary care pharmacists and population health specialists.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Associate Clinical Professor Stefanie Nigro (Pharm.D.)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Clinical Associate Professor\u00a0<\/span>Kristin Waters\u00a0<\/span>(Pharm.D.) were<\/span>\u00a0also<\/span>\u00a0installed as members of the Board of Directors.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the awards for pharmacist leaders, the CPA awarded seven scholarships to pharmacy students demonstrating academic excellence, leadership, and community service. Out of the 40 students who applied this year, six out of seven scholarship recipients were from UConn Pharmacy. These students include Jenna-Lynn Kelly (Henry A. Palmer Scholarship), Alen Joseph (Margherita Giuliano Scholarship), Ashley Klancko (Murray Abraman Scholarship), Lahar Miriyapalli (Milton Carmilleri Scholarship), Chloe Hurme (Steven Kruzshank Scholarship), and Wenhui Yan (Gerard Weitzman Scholarship). Determined to make a difference in their classrooms and communities, these UConn students are the future of pharmacy and the leaders in their communities, according to Emmet Sullivan (Pharm.D.), chair of the Scholarship Committee. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
