UConn John Dempsey Hospital is a World\u2019s Best Hospital <\/em>for the fifth year in a row.<\/p>\n

The prestigious award from Newsweek and Statista<\/a> is a result of quality metrics, recommendations from medical experts, and results from patient surveys.<\/p>\n

With now a half a decade of receiving this designation, UConn John Dempsey Hospital continues to raise the bar for excellence in patient care and safety, and reinforces its reputation as a top-tier academic medical center.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an honor to, once again, receive this recognition from Newsweek\u2014<\/strong>our fifth award in a row,\u201d said Dr. Andy Agwunobi, CEO of UConn Health and executive vice president for health affairs. \u201cYear after year, we continue to set the highest standards for health care in Connecticut. This major achievement is a true testament to our excellence in patient care, and I\u2019m incredibly proud of our entire UConn Health team for always going above and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2022, UConn John Dempsey Hospital ranked 400th on the World\u2019s Best Hospitals list. Today, UConn is ranked 275\u2014<\/strong>moving up from last year’s ranking of 297.<\/p>\n

According to Newsweek, this year’s evaluation gives greater weight to hospital quality metrics, incorporates new accreditation, quality, safety and patient experience data across multiple countries and further elevates the role of Statista’s\u00a0Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Implementation Survey (PROMs) through a higher weighting and revised Implementation Survey.<\/p>\n

PROMs are standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of their functional well-being and quality of life. UConn John Demspey Hospital is the only Connecticut hospital on the list awarded a PROMs ribbon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe continued rise in ranking is a reflection of the recognition that UConn Health is a destination for superior health care and an excellent patient experience.\u201d says Dr. Scott Allen, Chief Medical Officer and patient safety officer at UConn Health. \u201cOur staff are committed to a culture of safety, quality, and the patient experience, and that\u2019s why we continue to be recognized as a World\u2019s Best Hospital<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to being named a World\u2019s Best Hospital<\/em>, UConn John Dempsey Hospital is honored again for excellence in infection prevention, an award that recognizes the hospitals on Newsweek’s list that performed above the nationwide level based on CDC infection measures and Leapfrog hand hygiene criteria.<\/p>\n

UConn John Dempsey Hospital also earned the Patient Experience Award, which recognizes hospitals with outstanding performance based on the Hospital Consumer Assesment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey.<\/p>\n
