{"id":244265,"date":"2026-05-04T07:30:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T11:30:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=244265"},"modified":"2026-05-05T11:44:04","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T15:44:04","slug":"uconns-class-of-2026-by-the-numbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2026\/05\/uconns-class-of-2026-by-the-numbers\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn\u2019s Class of 2026: By the Numbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you took a tour around the UConn Storrs bookstore on the first day that caps, gowns, and tassels became available to this year\u2019s graduating class, and if while there you asked a couple dozen seniors what their favorite UConn experience has been, or what will always make them think about UConn, you\u2019d probably hear a common theme.<\/p>\n<p>School spirit.<\/p>\n<p>Community.<\/p>\n<p>Husky dogs.<\/p>\n<p>And basketball.<\/p>\n<p><em>A lot<\/em> of basketball.<\/p>\n<p>Because whether they did or did not follow basketball before coming to UConn \u2013 and a lot of them didn\u2019t \u2013 it\u2019s hard not to fall in love with the game when you\u2019ve lived through four consecutive years of national championship runs in the Basketball Capital of the World.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_244768\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-244768\" style=\"width: 776px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-244768 img-responsive lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-300x200.png\" alt=\"Graphic depicting data sets for the UConn graduating class of 2026.\" width=\"776\" height=\"517\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-630x420.png 630w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-150x100.png 150w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1-997x665.png 997w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/UConnToday-1500x1000-1.png 1501w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 776px) 100vw, 776px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 776px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 776\/517;\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-244768\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(Sean Flynn)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 2026 graduating class \u2013 which includes 5,929 undergraduates, 2,165 graduate students, 68 Doctor of Pharmacy Professional Program students, and 40 Ratcliffe Hicks graduates \u2013 had the unique experience of cheering their men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams as they brought home three championships in their four years.<\/p>\n<p>Within the Class of 2026 that cheered on their fellow Huskies were 4,346 in-state students and 1,626 from locales outside of the state \u2013 the furthest traveling about 9,300 away from home in Indonesia to study at UConn.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s youngest graduating student is 19 years old, and the oldest is 70 years young. The class boasts 47 sets of twins and triplets within its ranks, and 97 students \u2013 40 undergrads and 57 grad students \u2013 are U.S. military veterans.<\/p>\n<p>Among UConn\u2019s 2026 graduates, 1,948 can wear <a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2022\/04\/first-generation-students-now-have-special-commencement-tradition\/\">the distinctive green cords on their regalia<\/a> that celebrate their accomplishment as first-generation students \u2013 often the first in their families to have an educational experience beyond high school.<\/p>\n<p>The Class of 2026 can\u2019t be remembered just for accomplishments on the court, though \u2013 their academic successes might not happen in primetime, but they\u2019re no less impressive than an NCAA trophy.<\/p>\n<p>The class includes 471 members of UConn\u2019s Honors Program, 17 University Scholars, and 20 McNair Scholars.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s Education Abroad program included 777 members of the Class of 2026, least anyone doubt the global reach of UConn students.<\/p>\n<p>Class members received Fulbright Awards, GAANN Fellowships, the prestigious Gilman and Goldwater Scholarships, NASA FINESST Fellowships, the NIH Kirschstein National Research Service Award, NSF Graduate Research Fellowships, the Phi Beta Kappa Key Into Public Service Award, and USDA National Needs Fellowships, amongst other state and national awards, recognitions, academic opportunities, and honors.<\/p>\n<p>This March, UConn School of Medicine celebrated the placement of <a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2026\/03\/uconn-medical-students-meet-their-match\/\">more than 100 new graduating doctors in diverse residencies<\/a> ranging from anesthesiology to otolaryngology to primary care.
