During Nurses Week 2026, the UConn Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing is turning appreciation into action\u2014bringing gratitude directly to the front lines of care across Connecticut. Through a week of <\/span>outreach, connection, and celebration, faculty, staff, alumni, and leadership are recognizing the essential role nurses play in improving lives every day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the week, teams from UConn Nursing\u00a0are visiting\u00a0hospitals and healthcare settings to thank nurses in person. At UConn Health\u2019s John Dempsey Hospital, the celebration kicked off with a lively gathering in the mezzanine, where nurses were welcomed with snacks, giveaways, and a chance to connect. Faculty and staff engaged with attendees, encouraging alumni to reconnect with the school while fostering a sense of shared pride in the profession.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Midweek, the celebration extended beyond campus. At healthcare sites in Waterbury and Hartford, the\u00a0Elisabeth DeLuca\u00a0School of Nursing brought a taste of Storrs on the road\u2014serving cups of UConn Dairy\u00a0Bar\u00a0ice cream alongside words of appreciation. These visits created moments of joy and recognition for nurses working long hours, offering both a treat and a reminder that their work does not go unnoticed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dean Victoria Vaughan Dickson,\u00a0<\/span>Ph.D., RN, FAHA, FHFSA, FAAN,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>joined faculty and staff at multiple stops throughout the week, emphasizing the importance of showing up for the nursing community. \u201cNurses are the heart of healthcare; this week is about celebrating their dedication, but also about strengthening the connections that sustain our profession,\u201d shared Dean Dickson.<\/span><\/p>\n

The School\u2019s Nurses Week celebration also included recognition from UConn President Radenka Maric, who shared a special message honoring nurses and their impact across Connecticut and beyond. From hospital hallways to campus spaces, Nurses Week at UConn is more than a celebration; it is a reaffirmation of the\u00a0School\u2019s\u00a0commitment to supporting nurses at every stage of their journey. By meeting nurses where they are and recognizing their contributions in meaningful ways, the UConn Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing continues to lead with compassion, community, and care.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
