{"id":246640,"date":"2026-05-26T11:02:16","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T15:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=246640"},"modified":"2026-05-26T11:07:04","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T15:07:04","slug":"uconn-pharmacys-diana-sobieraj-wins-awards-for-two-publications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2026\/05\/uconn-pharmacys-diana-sobieraj-wins-awards-for-two-publications\/","title":{"rendered":"UConn Pharmacy\u2019s Diana Sobieraj Wins Awards for Two Publications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Diana Sobieraj started working as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) during her pharmacy practice residency at Hartford Hospital and UConn.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Sobieraj joined the SoPPS as Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice before her promotion to Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice with tenure in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Sobieraj became the Director of Assessment for the SoPPS, where she leads the design, implementation, and evaluation of assessment processes to measure student learning, curricular effectiveness, and program outcomes in alignment with accreditation standards. Serving as Director of Assessment led Sobieraj to develop a scholarly focus in curricular assessment, program evaluation, and evidence-informed educational decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Sobieraj\u2019s work in this area was recognized through two national publication awards.<\/p>\n<p>The first award she won was the Rufus A. Lyman Award from the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education (AJPE).<\/p>\n<p>The Lyman Award is given to the authors of the best paper published in the AJPE during the calendar year. The award is judged on the significance of the paper to pharmacy education, the originality of the paper, the research methodology and analysis of the paper, and the writing style of the paper.<\/p>\n<p>Sobieraj and her colleagues won the award for the paper \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/39743416\/\">Examining the Alignment of Pharmacists\u2019 Daily Tasks, Employer-advertised Skills, and the Entrustable Professional Activities<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sobieraj previously won the award in 2024 for her role in the paper, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajpe.org\/article\/S0002-9459(23)04400-5\/fulltext\">NAPLEX Preparation Program Characteristics and Resources Associated with First-Time Exam Pass Rates<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Winning the Lyman Award meant a lot to Sobieraj.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was incredibly exciting,\u201d Sobieraj said. \u201cIt speaks to the quality of work that collaboratively in assessment can be done and how impactful the assessment work is to pharmacy programs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that winning the award came as a surprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Winning the Lyman award] a second time in my career was more of a shock factor because I had won it in 2024, and that in itself is the pinnacle award that people in my position strive for,\u201d Sobieraj said. \u00a0It reflects my commitment to producing high-quality work and maintaining a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach in everything I do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sobieraj also won the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Assessment SIG Collaborative Publication Award for her part in the publication of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/40187565\/\">Evolving Standards: An Examination of NAPLEX Blueprint Changes and Implications for the Academy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Assessment SIG Collaborative Publication Award recognizes scholarly collaborations by members of the AACP Assessment SIG based on the strength of collaboration, methodology, utility, innovation and writing differentiation.<\/p>\n<p>Winning the SIG award meant a lot to Sobieraj.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersonally, it\u2019s fulfilling,\u201d Sobieraj said. \u201cIt\u2019s nice for our team to be recognized for our record of publications over the past four to five years, really demonstrating longstanding collaboration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The publication wasn\u2019t challenging for Sobieraj and her team because of their collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t very hard because we have such a great group,\u201d Sobieraj said. \u201cEveryone has unique strengths that they bring to the table and collectively we get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sobieraj said that the paper submitted for the SIG award was one of the quickest turnarounds from idea to submitted manuscript to the journal that she was a part of.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her recent awards, Sobieraj was also promoted to Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the SoPPS.<\/p>\n<p>Sobieraj said that the hard work and time she put into her career feels like it paid off.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have invested so much time and effort and energy into my career and it feels like I am at the top of the mountain,\u201d Sobieraj said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe jump from associate professor to full professor really hinges on your national reputation and being known in your field nationally,\u201d Sobieraj said. \u201cGetting promoted to full professor kind of gives you the stamp of approval, like you\u2019ve made yourself known in your field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Lyman Award and the AACP Assessment SIG Collaborative Publication Award will be presented to Sobieraj and her team during the 2026 AACP Annual Meeting in July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UConn School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Director of Assessment and Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Diana Sobieraj, along with her collaborators, won the Assessment SIG Collaborative Publication Award and Rufus A.
