Awards<\/em><\/p>\n

Robin Coulter<\/strong>, a professor emerita who led the School of Business marketing department for 17 years, will be recognized by the American Marketing Association this summer for the enduring impact of her research. The American Marketing Association will present Coulter, and her co-authors Yuliya Strizhakova of Rutgers and Linda L. Price of the University of Wyoming, with the Hans B. Thorelli Award for their article \u201cBranded Products as a Passport to Global Citizenship: Perspectives from Developed and Developing Countries.\u201d The award honors a Journal of International Marketing article published at least five years ago that has made the most significant and long-term contribution to international marketing theory or practice.<\/p>\n

Vikas Kumar<\/strong>, a School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences assistant research professor, won the Excellence in Research Award at the 2026 American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy annual meeting. Kumar\u2019s research focuses on delivering nucleic acids to specific kidney cells, which constitute over 60 percent of the kidney\u2019s mass and are the primary injury site in many renal diseases.<\/p>\n

Jessica Panella<\/strong>, head of outreach and community engagement at UConn Law\u2019s Thomas J. Meskill Law Library, has been named the recipient of its Outstanding Librarian Award by the Connecticut Library Association. The award is given annually to honor the career accomplishments of a librarian in the state who has demonstrated an outstanding record of service to their library and to their profession.<\/p>\n

Diana Sobieraj<\/strong>, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences director of assessment and professor of pharmacy practice, won the Assessment SIG Collaborative Publication Award and Rufus A. Lyman awards for two different publications that she headed. The Lyman Award is presented by the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education and given to the authors of the best paper published in the AJPE during the calendar year. The award is judged on the significance of the paper to pharmacy education, the originality of the paper, the research methodology and analysis of the paper, and the writing style of the paper. She also won the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Assessment SIG Collaborative Publication Award. That award recognizes scholarly collaborations based on the strength of collaboration, methodology, utility, innovation and writing differentiation.<\/p>\n

Charles Yarish<\/strong>, professor emeritus of ecology and evolutionary biology, won the Honorary Life Award from the World Aquaculture Society in in recognition of his lifetime of distinguished contributions to aquaculture science, sustainability, education, mentorship, and global leadership.<\/p>\n

Milestone<\/em><\/p>\n

Myron Weiner<\/strong>, professor emeritus in School of Social Work, turned 100 years young on May 25. Weiner was the founding chair of the Master of Social Work Administration program, established in 1975. Prior to that, he served as a professor in the Master of Public Affairs program beginning in 1961. He authored numerous books, monographs, and professional papers on social work administration and nonprofit organizational management. Happy Birthday!<\/span><\/p>\n

In Memoriam<\/em><\/p>\n

John Cooke<\/strong>, 87, of North Ipswich, N.H., a professor of biology, botany, marine science, and mycology, for more than 30 years, on June 1.<\/p>\n

Dr. Edwads Pesanti<\/strong>, a former professor of medicine in infectious disease at UConn Health.<\/p>\n

Wendy Winters<\/strong>, 95, a former professor in the School of Social Work from 1975-78, on April 23.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
