{"id":252961,"date":"2026-09-11T12:39:43","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T16:39:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=252961"},"modified":"2026-09-11T12:40:29","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T16:40:29","slug":"professor-bird-speaks-at-top-global-legal-research-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2026\/09\/professor-bird-speaks-at-top-global-legal-research-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Bird Speaks at Top Global Legal Research Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Business law professor <strong>Robert Bird<\/strong> gave two lectures last month at the prestigious <strong>Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law<\/strong> in Hamburg, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>The Institute is a top global center for foundational comparative legal research and is renowned for its academic rigor and expert policy advising.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis visit was helpful in building important networks around the world,\u2019\u2019 Bird said. \u201cFollowing my presentations, I received invitations to speak at universities in Spain, Serbia, and Japan. This engagement and significant interest in sustainability and competitive advantage reinforces our leadership in business law.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Bird spoke to a large group of students, educators, and other professionals about sustainability as a value-creating legal strategy. He referenced his 2025 book, \u201cLegal Knowledge in Organizations: A Source of Strategic and Competitive Advantage,\u2019\u2019 which emphasizes how companies can use legal knowledge proactively to create business value and competitive advantage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe transition to sustainable practices is one of the most difficult challenges facing the world today, and it is also an important topic for both business and society,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cCompanies can and should employ ideas that will not only help save the planet but also build a better business.
