The event, which lasted from 3 p.m. on April 8 to 9 a.m. on April 9, was part of a nationwide effort to raise money to fund cancer research. The first Relay was held in 1985 and now over 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States \u2013 with additional communities in 19 other countries \u2013 gather for this annual event.
