\nby chance I strayed from Nordstrom\u2019s quiet hall
\nto Apple\u2019s store, where noisy crowds did meet
\naround the Macs, and pods, and pads, and all
\nthe high-tech gear that we poor mortals sell
\nour souls to own.<\/p>\n
\nto iPhone apps, and where I go I bring
\nmy MacBook Pro, an iPad I have never
\nowned, and I have sworn to do without
\nthat slender, lovely, window on the cloud.<\/p>\n
\nthis iPad\u2019s screen displays the sweetly floating
\nicons on its face, how flexible and smart
\nits cover is, how light it is, so you may
\nkeep it with you night and day.<\/p>\n
\nbehind my hulking laptop taking notes, or
\ntapping keys upon my tiny phone,
\nwhile other deans and provosts proudly hold
\ntheir iPads, each in cases made of leather.<\/p>\n
\nmother, who for her four-score birthday did an
\niPad find among her gifts, and how
\nI spent near half-a-day configuring
\nand syncing and preparing it on her behalf.<\/p>\n
\nthat my beloved parents bought for me
\njust two years past for my birthday? Now in
\nMona\u2019s hands it sits, while I read tiny books,
\nsquinting hard, on my phone\u2019s tiny screen.<\/p>\n
\nme to foreswear myself, and yield to that
\nfoul genius\u2019s tempting talk,
\nat last my better nature did assert itself.
\nI fled that store at once, and thought
