Match Day was a great success for students at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine as 98.8 percent secured residencies through the National Residency Match Program. The national average is 94.1 percent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are a lot of metrics used to rank and evaluate educational institutions but the measures that matter most are outcomes and one of the most important outcomes is the ability of graduates to pursue their dreams,\u201d says Dr. David Henderson, associate dean of medical student affairs. \u201cSo judging by these results, UConn and the class of 2011 have been extremely successful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Primary care residency programs, which include internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics, accounted for 35 percent of the students. Emergency medicine, radiology\/diagnostic and psychiatry were the top three programs for the remaining 65 percent of students. The majority of the class, 61 of the 81 students, will stay in the Northeast, with 29 remaining in Connecticut.<\/p>\n

Match Day is conducted annually at medical schools across the country to match students with residency programs and fill the available training positions at teaching hospitals around the country.<\/p>\n
