{"id":47297,"date":"2011-09-27T13:05:33","date_gmt":"2011-09-27T17:05:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=47297"},"modified":"2011-09-29T11:30:49","modified_gmt":"2011-09-29T15:30:49","slug":"soccer-america-ranks-uconn-men%e2%80%99s-soccer-no-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2011\/09\/soccer-america-ranks-uconn-men%e2%80%99s-soccer-no-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Soccer America Ranks UConn Men\u2019s Soccer No. 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Huskies men\u2019s soccer team has moved to the top of the national rankings, after winning its fifth game against a ranked opponent on Saturday, with a 2-0 win over No. 15 St. John\u2019s in the opening match of its Big East schedule.<\/p>\n<p><em>Soccer America <\/em>has ranked the Huskies (8-0-0, 1-0-0 Big East) No. 1 in the nation for the first time since Nov. 19, 2007, a season in which UConn advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, the Huskies were ranked as high as No. 2 on Oct. 5. UConn opened the 2011 campaign ranked No. 5 in the <em>Soccer America <\/em>preseason poll.<\/p>\n<p>Connecticut is followed in the poll by fellow traditional powers Maryland, Creighton, North Carolina, and Akron. Louisville, at No. 9, is the next-ranked team from the Big East Conference. The Big East currently has six programs ranked in the top 25<strong>: <\/strong>No. 1 UConn, No. 9 Louisville, No. 11 Notre Dame, No. 13 USF, No. 15 St. John\u2019s, and No. 25 West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>The Huskies will host in-state foe Yale on Tuesday night at Joseph J.
