<\/a>Dr. Winston Campbell<\/a>, interim chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Health Center, has been appointed to serve on a newly formed Umbilical Cord Blood Collection committee.<\/p>\n The committee was formed as result of legislation passed to develop a public umbilical cord blood donation program in Connecticut. Campbell co-chaired a cord blood task force last year which was integral in passing the legislation.<\/p>\n Dr. Molly Brewer<\/a>, director of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the Health Center, has been named the 2011 Outstanding Young Alumna<\/a> at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.<\/p>\n The award recognizes physicians doing great things earlier in their careers. The award is presented to an alumna or alumnus who has graduated within the last 20 years and has demonstrated excellence in medical practice or research, service to the community, and\/or commitment to the Medical Alumni Association Foundation.<\/p>\n Judy Lewis<\/a>, director of the School of Medicine\u2019s Community Based Education Program, and Bette Gebrian, with the School of Nursing and director of the Haitian Health Foundation, have been accepted for a Scholarly Residence at the Rockefeller Center in Bellagio, Italy in spring 2012. \u00a0The two will collaborate on writing a book about their community work in Haiti.\u00a0 The Rockefeller Foundation\u2019s Bellagio Residency program offers academics, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners a serene setting conducive to focused, goal-oriented work.<\/p>\n <\/a>Gebrian, who is also being honored this month with the UConn alumni Humanitarian Award, has been working with the Haitian Health Foundation for the past 25 years. Lewis is a medical sociologist who has worked in maternal and child health in Hartford, Haiti, and many other parts of the world. \u00a0Together they have supervised over 50 medical, MPH, dental and graduate students on research and evaluation projects to improve health services and outcomes in Haiti.<\/p>\n Dr. Kisha Davis, a 2004 graduate of the UConn School of Medicine<\/a>, has been awarded a White House Fellowship<\/a>, <\/em>one of America\u2019s most prestigious programs for leadership and public service.
