A high school robotics team met UConn\u2019s surgical robotics team on a recent visit to the Health Center. Gus Robotics Team 228 is a nationally recognized team made up of students from five different high schools in Meriden and Wallingford.<\/p>\n

The students received a tour of the robotic surgical suite and heard presentations from Dr. Christina Stevenson<\/a>, surgical oncologist, and Dr. Angela Kueck<\/a>, a gynecologic oncologist and medical director of the robotic surgery program.<\/p>\n

The students learned that the Health Center offers the newest generation of robotic surgery<\/a> using the da Vinci\u00ae<\/em> Surgical System. It allows doctors to perform major surgical procedures through the smallest of incisions. The breakthrough technology is changing the surgery experience for patients and doctors alike.<\/p>\n

The Gus Robotics Team was founded in 1999 to bring the excitement and inspiration of the First Robotics Competition (FRC) to local students. The goal is to introduce and inspire students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.<\/p>\n

Kevin Larsen, operating room director, says the tour was a great success and they hope to have the students back again next year.<\/p>\n
