(Chris DeFrancesco\/UConn Health Center Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once again this year, clinical staff from the <a href=\"http:\/\/nemsi.uchc.edu\/\">New England Musculoskeletal Institute<\/a> offered free foot screenings and new shoes for the less fortunate in central Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/nemsi.uchc.edu\/physicians\/bios\/aronow.html\">Dr. Michael Aronow<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/nemsi.uchc.edu\/physicians\/bios\/sathe.html\">Dr. Vinayak Sathe<\/a>, both foot and ankle surgeons, along with orthopaedics resident Lauren Geaney, physician assistant Cindy Baczewski, and medical assistants Lori Engengrro and Doreen Smith, volunteered in New Britain, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/friendshipservicecenter.org\/\">Friendship Center<\/a>, 241 Arch St.,\u00a0<strong><\/strong>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.use.salvationarmy.org\/use\/www_use_sne.nsf\/vw-sublinks\/20E500B4ECA7A42E85256F0300455DD7?openDocument\">Salvation Army<\/a>, 78 Franklin Square Tuesday evening. They screened seven people, provided 40 with a new pair of shoes and socks, and left behind 66 pairs of shoes for future use.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s part of a Thanksgiving week effort to provide podiatry screenings and properly fitting footwear at homeless shelters across the country. (Chris DeFrancesco\/UConn Health Center Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now known as the Conti Project, this nationwide effort works in collaboration with the Tennessee nonprofits <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soles4souls.org\/\">Soles4Souls<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heartstosoles.com\/page_new.cfm?id=1871\">Socks2Soles<\/a>, as well as retailers such as Red Wing Shoes and KEEN footwear, to obtain shoes and boots for distribution.
