This Thanksgiving, I had a creative moment thinking about my former satirical (or maybe just more satirical) self before I became dean of CLAS. This is the result.<\/p>\n

\nHis wisdom and judgment are pure,

\nI\u2019d like to keep my job secure.<\/p>\n

The president\u2019s words are like honey,
\nHer vision inspires us all,
\nShe\u2019s out on the road raising money, but
\nShe could fire me with a phone call.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to be funny as dean, boys,

\nBetter keep counting those beans, boys,

I work with the heads of departments,
\nOn budgets and staff we agree,
\nI\u2019ve nary a doubt of their talents,
\nThere are 20 of them and there\u2019s me.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to be funny as dean, boys,

\nYou need to inspire and lead, boys,
\nit\u2019s hard to be funny as dean.<\/p>\n

The faculty\u2019s brilliance is legend,
\nTheir research earns worldwide respect,
\nWhatever they want I will give them,
\nI don\u2019t want to get them upset.<\/p>\n

\nYou have to wear ties and speak wisely,

My deanship will someday expire,
\nTo the faculty I will ascend,
