Dr. Paul Skolnik joined the UConn Health Center as chairman of the Department of Medicine in May.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The UConn Health Center has recruited nearly 40 physicians since the start of fiscal 2011, including two to key chairmanships.<\/p>\n

From July 2010 through June 2011, 19 physicians and a nurse practitioner joined the Health Center. So far this fiscal year, 22 more physicians have been recruited.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re building a deep bench as we look toward the future,\u201d says Dr. Denis Lafreniere<\/a>, interim director of UConn Medical Group. \u201cAnd the promise of Bioscience Connecticut and our transition to a national leader in academic medicine only makes coming here more attractive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Among the new additions are Dr. Paul Skolnik<\/a> as the chair of the Department of Medicine and Dr. David McFadden<\/a> as chair of the Department of Surgery.<\/p>\n

Skolnik, an internationally prominent infectious disease specialist and academician, joined the Health Center this spring.<\/p>\n

McFadden, a nationally recognized surgeon, educator and researcher, is professor of surgery and associate dean for regional academic affairs at the University of Vermont School of Medicine. He will join UConn in December.<\/p>\n

Lafreniere held the surgery chair on an interim basis for the last two years.<\/p>\n
