On May 6, she\u2019ll be the first in her family to graduate from college.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft pr20 img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Ying-Wang-headshot-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Ying Wang '12 Ph.D. (Peter Morenus\/UConn Photo)\" width=\"72\" height=\"90\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/blog\/2012\/05\/improving-the-detection-of-landmines\/\">Ying Wang &#8217;12 Ph.D.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chemical engineering doctoral student Ying Wang has developed a portable sensing system that can improve the detection of landmines.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft pr20 img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Arif-Shamsul-headshot-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Shamsul Arif '12 Pharm.D.\" width=\"72\" height=\"90\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/blog\/2012\/05\/class-of-2012-shamsul-arif\/\">Shamsul Arif &#8217;12 Pharm.D.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Doctor of Pharmacy student Shamsul Arif&#8217;s accomplishments at UConn include extensive community service and a scholarship that resulted in his meeting the U.S. Surgeon-General.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft pr20 img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Alexandra-Raleigh-headshot-240x300.jpg\" alt=\"Alexandra Raleigh '12 (CLAS).
