About the artists: Kenneth Ward<\/strong>, of East Hartford, was introduced to the photographic method in the 1970’s. In the 90’s he put down his camera only to pick it up again ten years later.<\/p>\n

He opened his first show at the Photosynthesis Gallery in Manchester in 2010 and has since exhibited in juried shows at the Shoreline Arts Alliance and the West Hartford Art League.<\/p>\n

His solo exhibition at the Hartford Public Library resulted in the library’s purchase of several of his pieces and an archival record of the show was created for the Hartford History Center’s Hartford Collection. He was also awarded a prize at the Academy of Fine Arts annual exhibition.<\/p>\n

Lorraine Ficara<\/strong> studied color and 3D art at Tunxis Community College, and also with well-known painters including Zoltan Zabo, Tony Van Hasselt, and Fred Messersmith, among others.<\/p>\n

A resident of Wethersfield, Ficara is a member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society and local art leagues, where she gives demonstrations. The winner of numerous awards, she most recently won third place in the West Hartford Art League’s Member Show held in February.<\/p>\n

“I love to experiment,” states Ficara. “When a subject chooses me, I find passion in capturing its spirit.”<\/p>\n

The University of Connecticut Health Center\u2019s collection of fine arts serves to enhance the environment and promote the sense of a caring community for patients, visitors, staff and students.
