Together, they raised a record-breaking $1 million to support the Health Center\u2019s missions of education, research and clinical care.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the event honored the School of Medicine and Dental Medicine\u2019s inaugural class of 1972, with a theme of \u201ccelebrating 40 years of education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not just educating the next generation of scientists, scholars and leaders, we are changing lives through research, health care and community service,\u201d said President Susan Herbst. \u201cAnd thanks to Bioscience Connecticut, soon we will lend our expertise and resources to innovations that will no doubt change the way medicine is practiced around the world.\u201c<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Herbst, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and executive vice president for health affairs and dean of the UConn School of Medicine Dr. Frank Torti, spoke at the event.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Awardees of the annual Carole and Ray Neag Medal of Honor included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr. Peter J. Deckers, professor of surgery and dean emeritus, UConn School of Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Barbara E. Kream, professor of medicine and associate dean of the UConn Graduate School<\/li>\n<li>Dr. John W.
