{"id":6125,"date":"2009-10-21T15:31:56","date_gmt":"2009-10-21T19:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/?p=6125"},"modified":"2011-05-31T12:38:01","modified_gmt":"2011-05-31T16:38:01","slug":"southeast-asia-is-focus-of-stamford-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/2009\/10\/southeast-asia-is-focus-of-stamford-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"Southeast Asia is Focus of Stamford Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A symposium on development in Southeast Asia and reception and photo exhibit celebrating the life and work of the late United Nations Secretary-General U Thant will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m., in the GenRe Auditorium, University of Connecticut, 1 University Place, Stamford.<\/p>\n<p>At 5:30 p.m., a photo exhibit will be opened by United Nations Under-Secretary-General Kiyo Akasaka, with a wine-and-cheese reception and gallery tour until 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>From 7 to 8:30 p.m., the Prospects for Peace VI Symposium will feature an address by the Ambassador of Thailand to the United Nations, Norachit Sinhaseni, on \u201cCooperative Trickle-Up Initiatives in Southeast Asia.\u201d\u00a0 Panelists will include William Abrams, president, Trickle Up Program, and Kanni Wignaraja, director of the Capacity Development Group, UN Development Programme.<\/p>\n<p>Other ambassadors to the United Nations from Southeast Asia are expected to attend, including those from Myanmar and Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p>Organized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uthantinstitute.org\/\">The U Thant Institute<\/a> in cooperation with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.business.uconn.edu\/cms\">UConn School of Business<\/a>, the photo exhibit and symposium is hosted by the UConn Center for Globalization and Commerce.\u00a0 Co-sponsors include the United Nations Association of Connecticut, the Business Council of Fairfield County, the Connecticut Information Technology Institute, the Stamford Chamber of Commerce, and the World Affairs Forum.<\/p>\n<p>Free parking is available on the second floor of the UConn parking garage.
