There\u2019s a brand new app for that.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Connecticut has launched its first official mobile app, letting users quickly find anything from dining hall menus to UConn\u2019s course catalog, interactive maps, and real-time tracking of buses along campus routes.<\/p>\n<p>The app, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.my.uconn.edu\/\">myUConn<\/a>, became available online this month for Apple and Android products. It is free to download at Apple\u2019s iTunes store or at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.my.uconn.edu\">http:\/\/my.uconn.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>University Information Technology Services (<a href=\"http:\/\/uits.uconn.edu\/\">UITS<\/a>) developed the app as a result of requests from students and faculty who wanted to access UConn information on their smartphones and mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>A steering committee involving people from several UConn departments and schools worked for months to determine which services to incorporate into myUConn.<\/p>\n<p>UConn will also be seeking users\u2019 suggestions about other helpful resources they would like included as the app evolves and more features are added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe app puts the University at the fingertips of the user, and expands UConn\u2019s reach to a broad base of students and potential students, employees, and visitors to campus,\u201d says Nancy Bull, UConn\u2019s vice provost for information technology.<\/p>\n<p>The features on myUConn include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/phonebk.uconn.edu\/\">campus directory<\/a> where users can browse for emails, phone numbers, and mailing addresses of UConn employees and students. Users can also save recent searches, add people to their contact lists, or do reverse searches using a phone number.<\/li>\n<li>UConn\u2019s current <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catalog.uconn.edu\/\">course catalog<\/a>, including features that let users search by career and subject, or search for a specific course and its details. Users can also bookmark courses as \u201cfavorites\u201d to view later.<\/li>\n<li>A bus tracking service that uses GPS technology to let users see, in real time, when a bus is approaching a stop. They can search either by bus line or by a particular stop, and can also view all <a href=\"http:\/\/transpo.uconn.edu\/#home\">bus routes<\/a> in full screen or use their device\u2019s touch screen to pinch and zoom for better detail.<\/li>\n<li>Interactive maps that allow users to easily pick an address or building from the menu and see its location. A locator service also helps users pinpoint their exact location as they\u2019re searching.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dining.uconn.edu\/index.php\">Dining<\/a> menus for residence halls throughout campus, letting users easily view the selections that will be offered throughout the current week.<\/li>\n<li>Current <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uconnhuskies.com\/\">UConn athletics<\/a> news, sports headlines, upcoming events, schedules, and latest scores.
