(Peter Morenus\/UConn Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>More than 100 people gathered Wednesday in the sustainably-landscaped courtyard of UConn\u2019s newest building, Oak Hall, to dedicate the building and recognize those who have worked toward its completion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter many years in Monteith and Arjona, the CLAS faculty housed here are particularly deserving of this brand new building,\u201d said UConn President Susan Herbst. \u201cOak Hall will house the discoveries that are so vital to our mission as a public research institution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beginning this semester, the building is now home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clas.uconn.edu\/\">College of Liberal Arts and Sciences<\/a> departments of economics; journalism; languages, cultures and literatures; linguistics; and political science. The building, which has been constructed under the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uc2000.uconn.edu\/vision\/\" target=\"_blank\">21st Century UConn\/UConn 2000 program<\/a>, houses faculty offices, meeting space and classrooms, including a 200-seat auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Calling the building a \u201cbeautiful space,\u201d Dean Jeremy Teitelbaum welcomed faculty members to their new home and charged them with living up to its potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMay this space inspire you to build upon your excellent research, scholarship and teaching,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The new, S-shaped building has five wings and is outfitted with high-tech audiovisual capability, including large projection screens and wireless-equipped computers in every classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Monica Mula, a junior journalism and economics major<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_67831\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67831\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/OakHall121024a041.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-67831 img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"Monica Mula '14 (CLAS) speaks during the dedication ceremony of Oak Hall  (Peter Morenus\/UConn Photo)\" data-src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/OakHall121024a041-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Monica Mula '14 (CLAS) speaks during the dedication ceremony of Oak Hall on Oct. 24, 2012.
