Also check the outside of your home to make sure flue or exhaust systems for heating are clear of snow. Drifting snow can accumulate quickly and block home exhaust systems, inhibiting proper ventilation and allowing unsafe levels of carbon monoxide to linger indoors.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72586\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72586\" style=\"width: 167px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/B3hhuXq0\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72586  img-responsive lazyload\" title=\"\u00a1El MON\u00d3XIDO DE CARBONO (CO) PUEDE MATARLO!\" alt=\"CO-Sign-Spanish\" data-src=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CO-Sign-Spanish-231x300.jpg\" width=\"167\" height=\"216\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CO-Sign-Spanish-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CO-Sign-Spanish-77x100.jpg 77w, https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CO-Sign-Spanish.jpg 255w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 167px) 100vw, 167px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 167px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 167\/216;\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72586\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a1EL MON\u00d3XIDO DE CARBONO (CO) PUEDE MATARLO!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With past storms\u2019 carbon monoxide cases in mind, poison control center experts have additional recommendations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not warm up the snow blower or use generators, charcoal grills, gas grills, indoors or in a garage, carport, basement or other enclosed space, such as a covered porch. \u201cEven if doors and windows are open, dangerous levels of carbon monoxide can build up quickly,\u201d Hanoian Fontana says.<\/li>\n<li>Do not use propane or kerosene heaters inside your home. It is also not recommended to heat your home with your gas oven or stove top.<\/li>\n<li>Use generators outside and at least 20 feet from your home. Keep your generator away from doors, windows or air intake vents.\u00a0 Make sure outside vents are not blocked with snow or leaves. Poison center data show that generators were the most likely source of CO poisoning in past storms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Early symptoms of CO poisoning include headache, nausea, unclear thinking, shortness of breath, weakness, and loss of muscle control.
