(Steve Slade \u201989 (SFA) for UConn)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Accomplished and aspiring leaders from all corners of industry are returning to their companies this week with inspiration from some of the nation\u2019s best business minds, as the first participants in the inaugural <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genoleadership.com\/\">Geno Auriemma UConn Leadership Conference<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, held Monday and Tuesday at Mohegan Sun Convention Center, was sold out to capacity with more than 150 registered attendees. (Steve Slade \u201989 (SFA) for UConn)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The event kicked off with a keynote speech from Walmart U.S. President and CEO <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genoleadership.com\/Simon_-_Geno_Auriemma_UC.html\">Bill Simon<\/a> \u201981 (CLAS), \u201988 MBA, who said businesses and their managers must share a collective rallying cry to lead with excellence, particularly in a time when the nation and world face so much uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>The conference was marked with lively discussions throughout its two days. They included a debate on the second day between UConn director of Athletics <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genoleadership.com\/Warde_Manuel_Bio.html\">Warde Manuel<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/12DIfKL\">Denis Nayden<\/a> &#8217;76, &#8217;77 MBA, a managing partner of Oak Hill Capital, who shared ideas on leadership and ways to leverage change for success, with a focus on similarities between the worlds of business and athletics.<\/p>\n<p>The conference\u2019s final keynote address was delivered by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genoleadership.com\/Denson_-_Geno_Auriemma_UC.html\">Charlie Denson<\/a>, NIKE brand president, who discussed the role of vision in leading an organization with a culture that encourages everyone to take risks and be innovative.<\/p>\n<p>Other prominent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.genoleadership.com\/Speakers.html\">speakers<\/a> participated in discussions on how to lead a multi-generational workforce; ways of developing strategies for sustaining excellence; handling change effectively; being open to risk and innovation; and building a leadership skills toolbox to help address strategic planning, teambuilding, crisis management, and other issues.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77066\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77066\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/today.uconn.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/leadership9Geno.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-77066 img-responsive lazyload\" alt=\"UConn women\u2019s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma speaks at the Geno Auriemma UConn Leadership Conference on April 29.
